Introduction

This blog is for a Connected Games module, and it's an online multiplayer game developed by 3 designers and (including myself) 2 programmers. Prior to deciding what it looked like, long discussions were among the individuals about the game as the programmers made the suggestion of having the game consist of up to 6-8 players, and one of the designers, Roland Thomas, came up with the vision of letting the game be about collaboration with gathering resources for things such as tools where one of the players plays the role of an overseer, and I came up with an art style for it to be low-poly. His inspirations came from the following games:

Alongside the everyday life of doing chores came the idea of a mining game where a finite set of roles and tools would be available to the players, and they would be divided among themselves. The mining area has a limited light source where the player has to gather resources/ores, which can be used to construct gears and structures alongside a hunger meter where consumables are vital for the players through foraging for ingredients to be cooked. The surface is the second area where resources can be examined for monetisation; tools may be modified or recreated, and ingredients can be found by foraging.

With that synopsis out of the way, here is the list of the team and their respective roles:

  • Roland Thomas – Gameplay Designer, Narrative, Scrum Master.
